The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team pounded out a road win Thursday 12-10 at West Liberty. The game, originally scheduled for Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman was moved to West Liberty due to wet field conditions. Both offenses were hot early despite a weather delay and a late start. West Liberty scored five in the first half inning to jump up fast. Mid-Prairie came back with three in the bottom half. The Comets made it 6-3 with a single run in the third and Mid-Prairie tied it with three of their own in the bottom. A tally in the fifth made it 7-6 Comets, but Mid-Prairie took the lead in the bottom with a four spot at 10-7. It was 12-7 Hawks after the sixth. Though the Golden Hawk pen made the seventh an adventure they were able to hold on for the two run win.
Mid-Prairie had nine hits, two for extra bases. Blake Swart led the bats with two hits and three RBI including a triple. Landry Gingerich and Tatem Telfer each knocked in two. Brock Harland and Joe Hall drove in a run. Hall had two hits. Grayson Gingerich scored three times, Brady Weber, Dylan Henry and Luke Traetow all came home twice. Henry got the win in relief, working an inning with two hits, three earned runs and two walks. Harland went five in the start with 10 hits, five earned runs, a walk and two strikeouts. The Hawks win the season series over the Comets, improving to 15-7 overall, 11-4 in league play with the win, as West Liberty falls to 10-12 overall, 6-5 in the RVC. The Golden Hawks are back on the diamond tonight when they travel to Durant.
