U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke with KCII News about the projected $32 billion agricultural trade deficit for 2024. “By the way, we haven’t had this GSP, we call it, reauthorized for about three or four years, and I think that’s hurting our Agricultural products. But when we give that Generalized System of GSP to imports coming into our country, we’re helping people in that country, but we are also opening up avenues for greater export of agricultural products from the United States.” During the 116th Congress, Senator Grassley sought to extend the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), which expired in 2020. At the Finance Committee recently, he urged the Senate Finance Committee to reauthorize GSP, as well as the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which is set to expire on September 30, 2025.
