lone-tree-3

The Lone Tree Lions beat West Burlington baseball 8-2 last night. Lone Tree took the initial lead with a run in the first inning, and after West Burlington tied the game in the fourth, the Lions used five runs in the fifth to go in front for good.

Sophomore Emmett Burke had a double as part of two hits in the lead-off spot and scored two runs for Lone Tree, while junior Brody Magruder’s lone hit was a double on his way to scoring once and a team-high three runs batted in.

Junior Jack Patterson and freshman Brock Nebergall had two base hits each for the Lions, with Patterson scoring a run. Senior Dominic Graap added a knock and had two RBI, while Patterson pitched all seven innings for Lone Tree and allowed just six hits and one walk. The junior added nine strikeouts to help the Lions improve to 5-11.

Meanwhile, Lone Tree softball fell behind 7-0 after one inning of play against West Burlington Notre Dame and would never recover, taking a 12-2 loss after five frames.

The Lions were coming off a pair of losses on Saturday in a doubleheader at Central City. Lone Tree would be down 8-0 by the time they got on the scoreboard against Monticello and suffered an 8-4 defeat before losing 8-0 to the hosts from Central City.

The Lions have lost five straight to fall to 11-10. Both Lone Tree teams are back in action tonight, with softball facing WACO and baseball battling BGM.
