The City of Washington would like to remind residents that the use of consumer fireworks within the City is prohibited according to Ordinance 1109. The Council has determined that discharging consumer fireworks under the law is a public safety risk and a nuisance to neighbors. Firework usage has been prohibited since a change to the City code in 2020. The use of fireworks within the City limits is punishable as a simple misdemeanor with a fine of at least $250.
