Class 1A Substate 6 will draw plenty of interest from those around the KCII listening area when the Iowa High School Athletic Association baseball playoffs get underway Saturday, July 6th. Five schools including Keota, Sigourney, Highland, Lone Tree and Hillcrest Academy will all start the tournament trail in the same grouping. Four of those teams, the Huskies, Lions, Savages and Ravens reside in the same district. Three of them, Sigourney, Highand and Lone Tree will begin in the same quadrant, and will be part of a doubleheader July 6th at Sigourney High School. Two of them, the Huskies and Lions will meet in that double dip.

The two Southeast Iowa Superconference rivals, Highland and Lone Tree will come together on the diamond in Sigourney at 5p.m. July 6th. The 7p.m. nightcap at that site will be the Savages opening the tournament on their home field against South Iowa Cedar League rival English Valleys. You can hear both of these games live on all KCII streams and signals.

In the other half of district 12, Hillcrest Academy will host a doubleheader July 6th, featuring BGM and Wapello in game one at 5p.m. in Kalona, and the Ravens on their home diamond in the nightcap at 7p.m. against HLV.

In district 13, the Keota Eagles host a playoff doubleheader July 6th with Moulton Udell and Moravia on the diamond at 5p.m. and the home Eagles hosting the Danville Bears in game two at 7p.m.

The Class 1A State Tournament will take place the week of July 22nd at Merchant’s Park in Carroll.
