Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus baseball won 11-1 against Wapello last night. The Wolves took the lead with two runs in the third inning and responded to Wapello cutting their advantage in half with three runs in the fourth. WMU/Columbus added two more runs in the fifth before scoring four times in the sixth to end the game early.

Senior Cole Milks had a huge game at the plate for Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus, hitting two doubles and a triple on his way to four runs batted in and two runs scored. Junior Riley Kaalberg had a team-high four hits and three runs scored, while sophomore Kason Dopler added two base hits and two RBI.

Trevor Phillips also came up with two knocks and a run scored, while fellow sophomore Nic Sparrow added a hit, two runs scored and another two driven in.

Cael Phillips was both the starting and winning pitcher, throwing all six innings and allowing just five hits and one walk. The senior also picked up four strikeouts as WMU/Columbus moves to 3-6 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 7-10 overall.

Winfield-Mount Union softball put up a game effort against the defending Super Conference North champions in Wapello, getting a run on the board in the first inning after falling behind 2-0.

The Arrows scored three runs in the fourth to build the lead, and while the Wolves got a run in the sixth, they could not come all the way back and suffered a 5-2 loss. WMU drops to 4-10 in conference play and 5-17 overall.
