The City of Brighton will be holding a special election on Tuesday, August 6 to fill a vacant council seat. The announcement was made in a release from Washington County Auditor, Dan Widmer on Wednesday.

Brighton’s Council joins that of Washington who will also be seeking to fill a vacancy on the first Tuesday of August. By holding these two elections on the same day, the hope is that it will reduce the cost for both cities. Residents of Brighton who wish to be a candidate for their at-large council seat can pick up nomination paperwork at the Washington County Auditor’s Office or download it at washingtoncounty.iowa.gov. This includes an Affidavit of Candidacy and Nomination Petition. These are due to the Brighton City Clerk by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 12.
