Back in March, commercial dog breeder Loren Yoder was arrested and charged with 36 counts of animal neglect, each a simple misdemeanor. Earlier this month, Yoder was sentenced to one year of probation following a guilty plea.

Last August, more than 100 dogs were seized from Yoder’s facility in Riverside after an investigation found multiple instances of unsafe living conditions. These included puppies confined in a barn with temperatures in the 90s, outdoor runs with excessive holes, and insufficient personnel. Called Sunset Valley Farms, the facility was a repeat offender on the Humane Society’s “Horrible Hundred List”. The dogs surrendered were placed in the custody of Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center.

Yoder pled guilty to five counts of animal neglect with injury, each a serious misdemeanor. The case was handled in the Johnson County Courthouse.
