The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team came up short in a pair of Saturday contests against Quad Cities schools at the Iowa City West Rick Doran Classic at Pearl Field on the campus of the University of Iowa. The morning matchup was a 6-2 loss to Davenport Central. The Hawks scored once in the first and were matched by the Blue Devils with one in the bottom half. Central got three in the second to take a 4-1 lead. The Hawks got back within 4-2 with a tally in the fourth, but the Devils got single insurance runs in the fourth and sixth to finish the win.

In the afternoon it was an 11-2 loss to Davenport West. Mid-Prairie started strong, scoring a pair of runs in the second when Kadence Grout and Morgyn Bender singled to start the frame, before a Falcon error brought home Claire Trimpe and Tessa Bombei’s groundball scored Bender to make it 2-0 Mid-Prairie. West tied it in the bottom half with two runs on two hits. The Falcons took their first lead with a run in the fourth and followed that with an 11 batter, eight hit, six run inning. West ended the game early with two sixth inning runs on three hits. The Falcons out hit the Hawks 17-4, with Grout, Bender, Olivia Swartzentruber and Gabi Robertson coming away with one each. Grout took the loss in the circle, working five and two thirds innings.

After the two losses, Mid-Prairie is 7-20 on the year, ahead of a doubleheader in Kalona Monday against West Branch.
