The WACO Warriors lost a slugfest with Pekin softball 22-10 Thursday night in Wayland. Although WACO trailed 4-0 after one inning and surrendered another four runs to Pekin in the second, a run in the bottom of the second and a seven-run explosion in the third allowed the Warriors to tie the game.
But the Panthers scored five times in the fourth and eight times in the fifth to not only take the lead but also end the game early. Freshman Carlee Lunsford led WACO with three hits, including a double, and two runs scored.
Sophomore Lizzy Gerot and freshman Kaylan Willits each had a hit, a run scored and one run batted in, while freshman Madelyn Farmer picked up a base hit and scored twice. The Warriors remain winless this season as they gear up to play again tonight against Louisa-Muscatine.
