Washington Demon baseball came up short against Pella last night by a final score of 7-1. Facing the 10th-ranked team in the state in Class 3A, Washington made Pella work for it, allowing two runs in the first inning but only single tallies in the second and third frames.

The game was still 4-0 when the Dutch struck twice in the sixth and got one more insurance run in the seventh. Early dominance by Pella pitcher Teagen Hoekstra was too much to overcome, as he shut out the Demons over the first five frames and allowed only two hits and two walks while collecting six strikeouts.

Freshman Ethan Peebler was solid on the mound for Washington in his first career start, giving up only four runs on seven hits and four walks in five innings of work while also striking out three. Still, the Demons drop to 4-18. Washington is back in action again tonight and will be finishing a paused conference game with Fairfield.
