The Sigourney Savages knocked off Seymour 5-0 on the softball diamond last night. It took until the fourth inning, but Sigourney broke a scoreless tie by scoring twice in the frame and added three more runs in the next inning.
That would be more than enough for pitcher Carly Goodwin to work with, as the senior spun another gem by allowing only two hits in a complete-game shutout and racking up a whopping 19 strikeouts. Junior Ava Fisch led the Savage lineup with three hits, including two doubles, and scored a run.
Eighth-grader Ella Burns had two base hits and one run batted in, while seniors Erin Dawson and Amiya Smallwood each had two knocks, one RBI and one run scored. Sigourney, ranked sixth in the state in Class 1A, improves to 19-6 with the victory. The Savages play again tonight against Pella Christian.
