There’s an air of celebration in Wellman and Kalona Wednesday as the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk summer sports teams get set to honor their Seniors with a set of contests. The Golden Hawk softball team is at Carr, Vincent, Gould Field tonight to match up with West Liberty. The Hawks are 7-22 on the season after falling in a pair of games Monday to West Branch 7-6 and 10-7. On the year, Mid-Prairie is hitting .300 as a club with a .390OBP and .391 slug, scoring 139 runs on 183 hits with 63 walks and 120 strikeouts. Individually, four Hawks are at .300 or better, led by Dakota Mitchell’s team best .431 average on 31 total hits and 31 runs scored. Kadence Grout has a team best 20 driven in. Sophie Miller, Grout and Gabi Robertson are all over the .300 mark. In the circle, Grout has logged 90 innings with a 6-11 record and .366 opponent average on 155 hits, 69 earned runs, 23 walks and 34 strikeouts working out to a 5.33ERA.

West Liberty is 19-9 on the season after sweeping the Wilton Beavers 7-6 and 4-3 on Monday. The Comets are ranked No. 11 in this week’s Class 3A poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. This season, they are hitting .290 collectively, with a .425OBP, and .411 slug with 189 runs on 195 hits, 131 walks and 134 strikeouts. Three Comets are at .400 or better, led by Pearson Hall at .440. Sully Hall has 33 hits and 33 runs scored to lead and Mallory Wulf has driven in a team best 24. In the circle, Wulf is best with 89 innings and .256 opponent average on 92 hits, 35 earned runs, 32 walks, 47 strikeouts and a 2.75ERA. West Liberty has won 17 of the last 20 in the series including a 12-2 and 4-2 sweep three weeks ago. The Golden Hawks will honor their lone senior Gabi Robertson with a celebration during tonight’s game.

The Mid-Prairie boys are 19-8 on the year, 13-5 champions of the South Division of the River Valley Conference and return home after a 9-3 win at Sigourney Monday. The Golden Hawks are receiving votes in the latest class 2A poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. The Hawks are hitting .308 as a team with a .460OBP and .392 slug, scoring 196 runs on 212 hits with 163 walks and 151 strikeouts. Individually, seven Hawks are at .300 or better on the year, led by Tatem Telfer’s .379 with 33 total hits and 30RBI. Brady Weber leads with 26 runs scored. Telfer, Bowen Burmeister, Luke Traetow, Weber, Brock Harland and Dylan Henry are all at .300 or better this season at the plate. On the mound, the Mid-Prairie staff ERA is 3.12 with opponents hitting .231 on 158 hits, 78 earned runs and 215 strikeouts. Telfer is 5-1 with a 1.95ERA. Weber, Burmeister, Harland and Carson Pence are all multi-game winners with a combined ERA of three.

Burlington Notre Dame is 25-3 this season, and undefeated champions of the Southeast Iowa Superconference South Division following a 6-2 Tuesday win over Danville. The Nikes are ranked No. 2 in Class 1A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Notre Dame hits .366 as a team with a .487OBP and .500 slug, scoring 275 runs on 258 hits with 120 walks and 69 strikeouts. Five Nikes are at .400 or better, led by Dylan Kipp at .451. Spencer Brent leads with 41 total hits and 37 driven in. Landry Haberichter has scored a team best 43 runs. On the mound, the Notre Dame group ERA is 1.94 with a .157 opponent average, 119 hits, 47 earned runs and 219 strikeouts. Jaxon Sadler and Payne Prottsman are a combined 14-2 with a 1.40ERA. Notre Dame has beaten the Hawks each of the last two seasons. Mid-Prairie will honor eight seniors tonight including Bowen Burmeister, Joe Hall, Luke Traetow, Brock Harland, Carson Pence, Dylan Henry, Kurt Schneider and Jackson Miller.
