Two local baseball teams from the KCII listening area found their playoff home in Class 2A District 10 when the Iowa High School Athletic Association unveiled this year’s postseason assignments. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks are the second seed in the district. The Hawks have a 19-9 overall record and were 13-5 regular season champions of the South Division of the River Valley Conference, earning a first round bye. Mid-Prairie will open the playoffs at Anamosa on Tuesday, July 9th against the winner of three seed, 19-7 Mediapolis, and sixth seed 7-13 West Burlington.
Winfield-Mt. Union/Columbus finds themselves on the opposite side of Class 2A District 10 as the four seed with an overall mark of 8-11, 4-6, fourth place in the North Division of the Southeast Iowa Superconference. They will open the postseason against a familiar foe, fifth seed Louisa-Muscatine with their 5-15 overall record. The Wolves swept the Falcons in their two meetings this year by a 23-3 total. The winner of their third contest this season gets top seed, 18-9 Anamosa, July 9th.
The Class 2A State Baseball Tournament will be played the week of July 22nd at Merchant’s Park in Carroll.
