Washington Demon softball lost to Clear Creek Amana 11-6 last night. Washington fell behind right away to the 12th-ranked team in Class 4A when sophomore Lizzie Pasbring hit a grand slam for the Clippers on their way to scoring six runs in the first inning.

The Demons would trail the rest of the night, getting one run each in the fourth and fifth frames but seeing CCA score four times in the seventh. Washington got four runs of their own in the final inning, thanks largely to a three-run triple by freshman Colbie Greiner, but they could not come all the way back.

Sophomore Leighton Salazar had two hits and two runs scored for the Demons, while junior Ella Greiner also came up with a pair of base hits and scored one run. Emery Walton had two hits and one run batted in, while fellow senior Rylee Libe also had a RBI on one hit on Senior Night.

Washington, ranked 13th in the state in Class 3A, loses its seventh of the last eight games to fall to 22-11. The Demons will wrap up the regular season when they next play Tuesday night against Albia.
