The Lone Tree Lions slugged their way to ending the baseball regular season with a 13-10 win over Wapello Wednesday. Lone Tree grabbed a 3-1 lead in the first inning and would stay in front until Wapello scored six times in the fourth to go up 10-5.
But the Lions would be undaunted, following up a run in the bottom of the fourth with a seven-run explosion in the fifth to retake the lead and never give it back.
Junior Maddox Jondle led the Lone Tree lineup with three hits, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Senior Ethan Bockelman also had a three-hit game and scored twice while picking up two RBI.
Harry Brenneman had a pair of base hits for the Lions and scored one run, while fellow senior Dominic Graap had just the one hit but drove in a pair. Freshman Brock Nebergall came up with three runs batted in and joined Graap and freshman Owen Eden in having one hit and one run scored each.
Junior Brody Magruder picked up a RBI and joined sophomore Emmett Burke in each scoring twice to go with one hit. Bockelman also had four stolen bases, while Brenneman and Nebergall each had a pair of steals.
Lone Tree finishes the regular season with a 6-13 record, including a 4-8 mark in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.
