The Sigourney Savages look to move one step closer to the high school softball state tournament when they host Iowa Valley in the Class 1A Region 8 quarterfinals tonight, and you can hear all the action on KCII.

Sigourney, ranked sixth in the state in Class 1A, is 20-7 and working towards potential back-to-back trips to state, which would also be the third in the last four years. The Savages have won at least 20 games and a South Iowa Cedar League championship for a fourth straight year, thanks largely to all-state senior Carly Goodwin.

Goodwin is again near the top of the state in virtually every pitching category, racking up 277 strikeouts and compiling a minuscule 0.28 earned-run average on her way to an 18-2 record in the circle.

But Goodwin has also arguably been Sigourney’s best hitter as well, putting up a team-high .519 average that includes 10 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 25 runs scored and 38 runs batted in.

Meanwhile, junior Josephine Moore has also been an all-state caliber hitter again this season, batting .412 with six doubles, nine homers, 34 RBI and another 28 runs scored.

Junior Ava Fisch provides a steady hand in the lead-off slot with a .407 average and a team-high 29 runs scored, while the Savages are getting solid production from senior Erin Dawson, who has scored 23 times and is hitting .338 with three doubles and a home run.

Sigourney will see a familiar face in conference rival Iowa Valley this evening, a team that they have already beaten twice this season by a combined score of 18-0 and that sports an overall record of 11-13.

You can hear Savage playoff softball tonight on all KCII signals and streaming on the KCII apps and KCIIradio.com, starting with pregame coverage at 6:30.
