The Highland Huskies survived and advanced in the high school softball playoffs by defeating Calamus-Wheatland last night 4-2 in the Class 1A Region 8 quarterfinals.
The game was scoreless until Highland broke through with three runs in the fifth inning, and while Calamus-Wheatland crepped back into the game in the sixth, the Huskies held off the Warriors and got an insurance run in the seventh to ensure the road victory.
The win is Highland’s 15th in the last 19 games and improves their record to 19-8. The Huskies will next take on Sigourney in the Region 8 semifinals tomorrow night, a game you can hear on KCII starting with pregame coverage at 6:30 on 102.5 FM and AM 1380.
