The softball season came to an end for the Columbus Wildcats with a 9-0 loss to Louisa-Muscatine in the Class 2A Region 8 quarterfinals Wednesday. Columbus hung tough with the 10th-ranked team in the state but could not muster enough offense to keep up with Louisa-Muscatine, collecting only six hits as a team.
Sophomore Lizbet Herrera had two of those hits, while junior Lily Coil, freshman Ellie Sanders and sophomores Kennedy Woepking and Daniela Diaz had one base knock each for the Wildcats.
Coil pitched all six innings and racked up eight strikeouts as Columbus ends the season with a record of 8-22. The future is bright for the ‘Cats, with no losses to senior graduation from the 2024 roster.
