At approximately 6:19 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service Quad Cities Office issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northwest Washington, northwest Jefferson, Keokuk, Iowa, and Johnson counties in the KCII listening area.

Radar and spotter-indicated threats with these storms included 70 mile-per-hour winds in Sigourney, three-quarter inch-hail in Sigourney, and 60 mile-per-hour winds in South English. Sirens were also activated in Sigourney Monday night, and tree damage was reported near Riverside.

Iowa and Johnson counties saw rainfall rates of 1.5 inches per hour. Washington received 1.4 inches of rain, while Wayland, Winfield, and Columbus Junction got 1.5 inches. At approximately 7:04 p.m., the Severe Thunderstorm Warning was reissued, this time for southern Washington, Jefferson, Henry, and Louisa counties. The warning expired for Washington County at 8:45.

Three members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team took to the air for live coverage. Despite briefly losing power, coverage continued thanks to our backup generator. The one to count on for Severe Weather Action Team coverage is AM and FM KCII.
