An event now entering its fifth year, the Mayor’s Classic Car Cruise is returning to Kalona next month. It was recently announced that this year’s cruise will be on Saturday, August 3.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m., participants will line up their vehicles at Sinclair Tractor, 1409 E Avenue in Kalona. The cruise departs at 5 p.m., weaving its way through town until it reaches Kalona City Park. There, live music by Old Man Band and food vendors can be enjoyed by all. The music starts at 6 p.m. and guests are asked to bring a lawn chair.
Kalona Mayor, Mark Robe, started Mayor’s Classic Car Cruise during the pandemic, and tells KCII he never expected it to become such a big event. “I thought this would get us through COVID and maybe a year or so after that but this is kinda neat and it’s grown every year and we get more and more cars every year.”
While they haven’t reached it yet, Robe added that his goal for the cruise is to have at least 100 cars.
