The 2024 Sigourney baseball team set a new standard for the program this summer. A campaign full of accolades at the group and individual level came to a close against Lynnville-Sully Monday afternoon in the State Quarterfinals.

A pair of teams allowing less than four runs per game this season put that pitching and defense on display in Carroll yesterday. Caden Clarahan pitched all six innings for Sigourney and held a potent Hawk offense to just three hits. Two of those came off the bat of Lannon Montgomery, however, who had an RBI in the first and sixth innings to plate the only two runs of the contest. The Savage infield and outfield continued to make plays from the game’s inception, and helped Clarahan no-hit the Hawks from innings two through five.

Trailing for a majority of the game, Sigourney had no answers at the plate for starting pitcher Lucas Sieck, who earned his 1A-best 11th win Monday. Between he and Carson Maston, Lynnville-Sully allowed four hits: one each from Clarahan, Cole McKay, Reid Molyneux, and Ike Molyneux. That wasn’t to say the Savages didn’t apply the pressure. Sigourney had seven total baserunners, and stranded two each in three of the final four innings.

Wrapping up the best season in program history, the Savages finish with a 21-5 record and look to build off their first State appearance in 2025. They bid farewell to seniors Carter Wyatt, Reid Molyneux, and Jake Moore.
