A few of the top local track and field athletes have earned some of the highest individual honors in the state, as Josh Anderson of the Washington Demons and Juan Chairez, Riley Kaalberg, Lamar Ceant and Kaden Amigon of the Columbus Wildcats received all-state accolades from the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.
Anderson is all-state in Class 3A in the 100-meter wheelchair race after his fastest time of the season for Washington of 19.45 seconds was also the second-fastest time in the state. The sophomore was third in the wheelchair 100 meters at this year’s state championships and also won silver medals in the 200 and 400.
Chairez, Kaalberg, Ceant and Amigon made up the 4-by-100-meter relay team that finished second in Class 1A for Columbus and now grabs an all-state honor for running the second-fastest time in 1A this spring. Kaalberg and Ceant also won medals at the Class 1A state meet by finishing eighth in the shuttle hurdles relay.
