The hard work continues in the off-season for Hillcrest Academy Raven sports as the girls basketball team finishes up their camp today. Fifth grade through senior year Ravens have met Monday through Wednesday of this week from 8:30-11:30 each morning. Their focus has been work on strong fundamentals with an emphasis on proper shooting and ball handling mechanics, individual defensive skills and team work. Each player is evaluated and given a player profile card with areas of strength, others of improvement, and a list of drills they can use to continue work in the off-season. Campers were also divided onto teams and have played six total games across the three days.

Camp is under the direction of new head girl’s basketball coach Chris Nachtigall. He served as the program’s coach during the 2010-11 season and has also worked as an assistant varsity boys coach for the Ravens under head coach Dwight Gingerich, head JV boys coach, head softball coach at Northwestern College in Orange City for seven seasons with three conference titles, and assistant women’s basketball coach at Northwestern, compiling more than 15 years of coaching experience.
