drought-48

Last week, Iowa reached a long-awaited milestone in terms of precipitation and its effect on the land.

Field Agronomist for ISU Extension and Outreach, Rebecca Vittetoe, explains. “For the first time in 219 weeks, the State of Iowa is not showing up on the drought monitor.” In the latest data from the U.S. Drought Mitigation Center, there is once again nothing to report in the Hawkeye State.

While at times, the weather this summer has been far from ordinary, Vittetoe added that based on the information she’s been given, rainfall numbers moving forward shouldn’t stray far from average. “When we look at the weather outlook thinking about the rest of the growing season, it’s looking like slightly above normal on the temperature side of things and probably more near normal for precipitation. We’ll see but that’s what the climatologists are telling us.”
