Washington Demons softball has become a family business, as sisters Leighton and Bella Salazar represent the team with All-Southeast District selections in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Leighton Salazar again led Washington with 66 total hits, a .524 batting average and 54 runs scored. The sophomore also set a new single-season record for the program with 36 stolen bases and had 10 doubles, three triples and 29 runs batted in.
Bella Salazar was a dual threat, including arguably the best season of her career as a hitter. The junior hit .348 with 37 RBI, a top-20 total in the state in Class 3A.
The junior pitcher also had career bests with a 2.67 earned-run average and 100 strikeouts while going 13-8 in the circle, a big reason why the Demons won 24 games for a second straight year.
