Following a River Valley Conference South Division Championship season for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team, head coach Kyle Mullet has been named the 2024 RVC South Division Coach of the year.

He led a Golden Hawk team that finished sixth in Class 2A, drawing 169 walks, ninth in Class 2A with a .438 team OBP and 10th in 2A with 174 collective runs driven in. The Hawks also led the RVC, striking out just 160 total times as a lineup.

The Hawks had five players named to All-River Valley Conference teams including first-teamers senior Bowen Burmeister and juniors Tatem Telfer and Brady Weber, second teamer senior Brock Harland and honorable mention senior Luke Traetow. Telfer was also voted RVC South Player of the Year.

This week, Golden Hawk head coach Kyle Mullet joined the KCII Radio Coaches Corner to talk about what the award means to him and the program.

“The Coach of the Year Award is a player’s award. The coach that happens to be at the top of the conference championship team is the one that’s going to win it. Hats off to our guys. They are the ones that put in the work! My job is to be here to guide them. We make some tough decisions on who’s going to play and to put guys in certain situations but when it comes down to it, we can prepare these players all we want, I can give them all the drills they want, all the tips and pointers, but at the end of the day they are the ones that have to go out and compete and perform. For them to win the conference and for us to get the Coach of the Year Award, the credit goes to them. I’m just there to help them. I give that credit to the players and I’m glad that we could be the conference champs again, that’s a testament to the hard work that they put in and what this program is about!”

This is the third time Mullet has won the award, also being named Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2023. Mid-Prairie finished the conference season at 13-5, winning their second straight River Valley Conference South Division title and posting a 19-10 overall mark.
