What began as a way to get the community together during the pandemic has now turned into an annual event in Kalona, as the Mayor’s Classic Car Cruise returns this Saturday.

Anyone interested in participating should start lining up at 4:30 p.m. outside Sinclair Tractor on the east side of town. Vehicles will depart at 5 p.m. and weave their way through Kalona, including J Avenue, Sixth Street, Fourth Street, and B Avenue. The Cruise ends in City Park, but the fun continues with food trucks and a live performance by the Old Man Band at 6 p.m. Concert-goers are asked to bring their own lawn chairs.

Kalona Mayor, Mark Robe, tells KCII he never expected this event to reach its fifth year. “I thought this would get us through COVID and maybe a year or so after that, but yeah, this is kind of neat and it’s grown every year. We get more and more cars every year which is good.” While they’ve come close, Robe’s ultimate goal is to get 100 vehicles.
