At KCII, we’re continuing to count down the top 10 sports stories at Washington High School in the 2023-2024 academic year. At number nine is another excellent year of running for sophomore Iris Dahl.
Coming off a freshman year where she qualified individually for the state championships in both cross country and track & field, Dahl did it again. It all started with another superb season in cross country, winning a medal at the Class 3A state meet for a second straight season.
Dahl finished fifth at state with a time of 18 minutes 57-and-a-half seconds, capping off a season where was fifth at districts and had a top-10 finish at seven meets. Dahl then reached the Class 3A state track meet in both the 800 and 1,500 meters and also helped the Demons reach state in the distance medley relay.
Dahl won nine races this past spring and had 18 finishes inside the top five during track season, including winning Southeast Conference titles in the 400 and 800-meter runs and taking silver at the conference meet in the 1,500 and 3,000.
