The ninth biggest story in our Mid-Prairie sports countdown highlights the Golden Hawk baseball team and their River Valley Conference South Division Championship. Coming off of a title in 2023, the Hawks began defense of their crown by starting the league season 8-0 with three game sweeps of West Branch and Tipton, before taking two of three against Wilton. The Hawks finished 13-5 in conference, climbing as high as No. 5 in the Class 2A poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association during the season. This is Mid-Prairie’s second straight RVC South title, winning in 2023 with a 17-1 mark.
As a team, the Golden Hawks finished sixth in Class 2A, drawing 169 walks, ninth with a .438 team OBP and 10th with 174 total RBI. Mid-Prairie also led the River Valley, striking out just 160 times. The Golden Hawks had five players named All-River Valley including first-teamers Bowen Burmeister, Tatem Telfer and Brady Weber, second teamer Brock Harland and honorable mention Luke Traetow. Telfer was also named RVC South Division Player of the Year. Head coach Kyle Mullet was named RVC South Coach of the Year for the third time. Telfer and Weber were first-team All-District selections, Harland and Burmeister were second team.
Mid-Prairie ended their season with a 19-10 overall record. Our eighth biggest story from Mid-Prairie sports last year highlights the Golden Hawk volleyball program.
