Twenty-six-year-old Colby Joseph Manley of Cedar Rapids was sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison earlier this month. Manley, was sentenced in reference to a guilty plea in January of this year to four counts of distribution and aiding and abetting the distribution of a controlled substance, and two subsequent counts of distribution of a controlled substance, stemming from an incident in April of 2022 where Manley distributed fentanyl to other person, and that person overdosed and died while using the drugs. Following the death, Manley was also documented selling pills to undercover officers a half dozen times between December of 2022 and February of 2023.
The total sentence is for 98 months and carries a three-year term of supervised release following the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. Manley is currently held in the custody of the US Marshal’s. This case was investigated by the Northern Iowa Heroin Initiative, The US Department of Justice Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Johnson County Drug Task Force, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
