At KCII, we’re continuing to count down the top 10 sports stories at Washington High School in the 2023-2024 academic year. At number three is wrestler Aaron Boone finishing fourth in the state in his weight class.

After finishing sixth in Class 2A at 120 pounds in 2023, the junior moved up a weight class to 132 lbs and didn’t miss a beat. Boone lost just once in the regular season, winning five tournaments and taking home a Southeast Conference championship.

Boone would not be denied as state qualifying rolled around February 12th in Williamsburg, pinning his first opponent before winning a 5-2 decision in the 2A District 12 finals to earn his way back to the state tournament in Des Moines.

After a defeat in the state quarterfinals at Wells Fargo Arena the following week, Boone bounced back to win his next three bouts. A 6-4 decision loss was the only thing that kept him from a bronze medal at state. Boone finished the season with a record of 42-3 and would end up being named an All-Southeast Conference wrestler.
