The first half of August provided the KCII listening area a break from the normal summer weather routine before a more seasonal trend returns this week. Overnight Thursday, August 8th into Friday, August 9th a new record low temperature of 50 degrees was recorded in Washington. That clipped the all-time record for August 8th of 51 set in 1989. It tied the August 9th record set in 1972 and is 15 degrees below normal.
The middle to latter part of this week has seen temperatures rise into the 80s, giving way to renewed chances of showers and thunderstorms. The second half of this week the National Weather Service reports the KCII listening area has a marginal to slight risk of severe weather, forecasting the possibility of scattered severe storms with the main threats being gusty winds, heavy rain, lightning, large hail and isolated tornadoes. The KCII Severe Weather Action team is monitoring the latest models and will bring you live, on-air coverage, of severe weather in Washington County and southeast Iowa.
