The third biggest story from the last year in Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk sports sends us to the golf course, where the Hawks crushed it, in record setting fashion.
It was a dream season from start-to-finish for the Golden Hawks. They swept all of their River Valley Conference opponents in dual action. Mid-Prairie then made it back-to-back RVC Tournament titles shooting a 373 at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course to edge Tipton by two and beat the 14 team field. Four players shot in the 90s, led by senior Elliot Debler’s career best 90 to finish fifth overall and earn an Elite All-Conference spot. Senior Madi Davidson and junior Addison English finished with 94s to take eighth and lock up All-Conference bids. Senior Gabi Robertson shot 95 to place 10 and reach All-Conference status. Freshmen Olivia Swartzentruber and Morgyn Bender shot 103 and 105 respectively.
In the postseason, the Hawks finished as runners-up at their home regional opener in Kalona with a 379 score. Robertson led Mid-Prairie with a 92 to finish fourth. Other scores included Bender 93, Swartzentruber 96, Davidson 98, Debler 100 and English 102. At the regional final at West Liberty, the Golden Hawks grabbed a berth at state with their runner-up team total of 386. They were led by Davidson’s day of 89 for sixth overall. Other scores included Robertson’s 94, Bender 101, Swartzentruber 102, Debler 103 and English 104. The third straight trip to State for the Hawks sets a new program record.
At the State tournament in Boone, Mid-Prairie finished fifth, the best finish for the program in more than 15 years. Mid-Prairie shot a 732 team total, with a school record 365 team score coming on day one. Individually, Robertson led the Golden Hawks with a 169 total, finishing 11th and earning a spot on the All-State Tournament team in 2A. Other numbers for the Hawks include Swartzentruber 186, Bender 188, Davidson 191, English 198 and Debler 202. Davidson was named to the Class 2A All-Region 5 team by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. She and Robertson were named Academic All-State in Class 2A by the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association and Robertson was named Academic All-State in 2A by the IGCA.
Mid-Prairie finished with a 53-10 overall record and No. 7 ranking in the Class 2Acoaches poll. The Hawks say goodbye to seniors Davidson, Debler, and Robertson.
