The latest edition to the Marr Park Complex near Ainsworth is already benefiting Washington County Conservation. Earlier this summer, construction was completed on a new, 2,500 square foot shop building, which will be used for equipment cold storage. This replaces the old building from 1977. County Conservation Board staff began the tear down of the old facility in May of this year. The building contract in the amount of $63,921 was awarded to Double KK Construction of Washington, for the work that began June 3rd and was the major construction phase was completed in just a few weeks. Funds were budgeted from the Conservation building maintenance account and capital project accounts. Staff began storing equipment, including vehicles, mowers and implements, inside the new building in mid to late June. Washington County Conservation Board Executive Director Zach Rozmus tells KCII News how the facility helps their operation

Rozmus said, “In May and June we reinvested into the park. We had the original shop structure, the original home of County Conservation, everything was owned and operated essentially out of this one building. It had been retrofitted numerous times to meet the needs of the Department as years went by. It got to the point we were having some electrical issues, when it would rain, water would run through the building, it needed to be replaced. We put up a new 48×64 building. It’s got the doors on it and we’re working on a few tidying up projects on the actual shop itself.”

WCCB staff will finish insulating the building this fall to help save on costs with the plan to have all improvements completed by January.
