The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team held a special event for their fans Friday at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman. The Hawks hosted members of the community for an open practice. The Mid-Prairie faithful got to see the Golden Hawks hard at work getting ready for the upcoming season as they worked on fundamental drills, seven-on-seven, offense, defense, special teams and live scrimmaging. Golden Hawk head football coach Daren Lambert joined the KCII Radio Coaches Corner this week to talk about early season practice for his team and their focus in the home stretch toward their first live action of the year.
Lambert said, “So far this year, we have pretty much installed all of our run concepts. Once you get the pads on you can start to focus on defense and going a bit more live action. We’re fine tuning the fundamentals, ironing out details on certain concepts. We’ll go into that first scrimmage looking to get better and competing. I’m excited about how the guys have responded so far, that tells me they are ready to go.”
Fans were encouraged to bring Gatorade donations to Friday’s practice event. Mid-Prairie will get their first look at a live opponent Friday, August 23rd when they hit the road to take on West Liberty in a scrimmage. The Hawks officially open the season Friday, August 30th at Wilton. Catch Golden Hawk football all season long on AM 1380, FM 102.5, the KCII2 App and KCIIradio.com.
