In July, Brighton teen Reed Lauderman took on the best in the country at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Lauderman, a student at Pekin Schools, was in action twice in the arena, in a pair of team roping events. He teamed up with Colton Young of Ogden to post a time of 8.87 seconds in their first contest. In their second event, Lauderman and Young had a time of 24.04 seconds, due to penalties, giving the team a combined time of 32.91 seconds. This is the fifth straight year Lauderman has qualified for Nationals.

The contest was first held in Hallettsville, Texas and celebrated it’s 75th anniversary this summer. Forty-three different states and Australia, Canada and Mexico were all represented.
