Mid-Prairie’s Tatem Telfer had a baseball season that stood out among the best in the state. The Golden Hawk junior was named Third Team All-State in Class 2A by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
He threw 29 innings with a 4-1 record and 1.95ERA. Telfer allowed two hits all season fewest in 2A, a microscopic .024 opponent batting average, lowest in 2A baseball, and eight earned runs while striking out 70. At the plate, Telfer hit a team leading .382, second in the River Valley Conference, with a .491OBP, sixth in conference, and a .596 slug, third in the RVC. Telfer had 34 total hits, fourth in the RVC and 31RBI, 10th most in Class 2A, with 25 runs scored, fifth most in conference, collected 18 walks, eighth in the RVC and smashed a team high five homers, second most in 2A in Iowa.
Telfer was a first-team All-RVC selection, named River Valley Conference South Division Player of the Year and first-team All-District. The Golden Hawks won the River Valley Conference South Division Title with a 13-5 record and finished the year 19-10 overall.
