Winfield-Mount Union cross country is getting a new season rolling shortly, with one runner returning who reached the state championships last season.
Kohlby Newsom will be looking to punch his third straight ticket to state after finishing inside the top 20 in Class 1A last year. Wolves head coach Amanda Hemsworth tells KCII Sports that the senior is poised to chase down another trip to Fort Dodge.
“I know he’s really been pushing this summer [and] been putting in a lot of mileage over the summer months,” Hemsworth says. “[He] has a really great attitude coming in as a senior and is ready to work hard and do the extra work to get the extra mileage in. I’m expecting big things from his this season.”
Senior Jacob Nelson also returns for the WMU boys, while freshman Carter Finnell will be one of the newcomers. Freshman Ashlyn Bender will be the lone representative for the girls’ team at Winfield-Mount Union, which will start the season this coming Tuesday at the Hillcrest Invitational in Kalona.
