The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office now has a new K9 Deputy. Mitchell Griffin joined Louisa County in early August. KCII News spoke with Deputy Griffin about being a K9 Officer, “I would say being a K9 Officer is probably one of the best jobs in law enforcement. You get to see a lot of stuff, you are very busy. Having a K9 is like having a brand new kid, you are always watching him, you are always on your feet, he’s one hundred miles an hour going this way, going that way. You have to take care of him before your shift, after your shift, make sure he is getting the right food and water. Then training-wise, we do a lot of training. Training is very very important if you are to be a K9 guy, it is a lot of work, but it is worth it when you see the results.” Deputy Griffin was previously a Louisa County Jailer and has over five years of experience as a Muscatine Police K9 Officer. Griffin’s dog, Dino, served with him in the K9 Unit in Muscatine County, and he brought him to Louisa County.
