The Lone Tree Lions are seeking a bounce-back win in their second game of the football season when they host Meskwaki Settlement later tonight. Lone Tree couldn’t keep up with a high-powered offense from Iowa Valley last week and suffered a 70-12 loss.
Coming off a 1,000-yard season where he also rushed for 15 touchdowns, Lions senior running back Maddox Jondle put up 106 yards and a TD on 15 carries in the opener. Junior Emmett Burke also had 42 yards and a score on the ground while completing half of his 16 passes for over 100 yards in his first start at quarterback.
Both players were also impact players on defense last season and showed again what they could do in Week One. Jondle had a team-high seven-and-a-half tackles against Iowa Valley, while Burke came up with two tackles for loss and half a sack.
Lone Tree will take on a Meskwaki team that fell 86-6 to BGM last week and has not won a game since 2020. Kickoff of the Lions’ first home game of the 2024 football season is set for 7 o’clock this evening.
