The Washington Demons started the conference portion of their volleyball season with a straight-sets victory Tuesday night at Fort Madison. Washington raced out to a 25-11 victory in the first set, and after fending off Fort Madison to win the second 25-23, the Demons finished off a road victory by taking the third frame 25-15.

Junior Leighton Messinger led Washington with a double-double of 12 kills and 14 digs. Outside hitter Ella Greiner had six kills, 12 digs and two serving aces, while fellow senior Lauren Hinrichsen dished out 24 assists at setter to go with two aces and nine digs.

Sophomore middle hitter Layla Green added six kills and one blocked shot as the Demons, in addition to winning their Southeast Conference opener, raise their overall record to 3-3. Washington next plays its first home match of 2024 tonight when they take on Mediapolis.
