It’s Week Two of the high school football season in the Hawkeye State, and the Washington Demons are looking to keep a good start rolling when they play their first road game against conference rival Burlington tonight, and you can hear all the action on KCII. Washington gutted out a 21-14 win against Oskaloosa in the opener last week, holding on after their 14-0 halftime lead was erased.

Junior Kael Williams’ 82-yard return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff and a efficient night from senior quarterback Logan McDole were big ingredients to the victory, but the Demons leaned primarily on defense.

Defensive lineman Brady Krantz was a disruptive force up front with one-and-a-half sacks, while fellow sophomore Blaine Rees led Washington with six-and-a-half total tackles.

The Demons were disruptive on defense, as senior Jude Carter and junior Rudy Wolfe joined Krantz and Rees in each having 2.5 tackles for loss on a night when the team had 11 total tackles for loss.

McDole will look to build on a first game where he had just four incompletions while also passing for over 150 yards and two TDs, while Washington will be looking to improve on just 31 rushing yards as a team against Oskaloosa.

The Demons will be taking on a Burlington team that they beat 32-7 last season but looked the part of a team improving on a 4-5 record the previous year.

Behind a Southeast-Conference-high 155 yards and three touchdowns running the ball from junior quarterback John Phillips, the Greyhounds took down defending conference champion Fort Madison 35-7 last week.
