Southeast Iowa is well represented in the latest Cross Country poll issued by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches. In the team standings of Class 3A this week, the Washington Demon girls check in at No. 17. The Demons ran to a fourth place finish at the Iowa City Regina Bob Brown Invite last time out, led by a 10th place performance for Iris Dahl.
In Class 2A, the Mid-Prairie boys are No. 3. They were team champions at Williamsburg last week, led by an individual title for defending 2A State Champion Emmett Swartzentruber, as the Hawks put four of their runners in the top 10. The Hawks have two ranked runners in their lineup, led by Swartzentruber at No. 3 and Preston Yutzy No. 15. The Golden Hawk girls are No. 9 in the 2A team rankings this week, following their own event championship at Williamsburg where they were led by an individual title from Brooklyn Stutzman, as they put three of their runners in the top four of the standings. The Hawks have three ranked runners in their lineup, led by Stutzman at No. 9, Rachel Hostetler No. 12 and Kendal Landstrum No. 14.
Local runners in the individual rankings this week include Washington’s Tyler Alderton No. 27 in the boys 3A poll. Alderton finished ninth individually in Iowa City as the Demons finished seventh as a team at Regina.
In Class 1A, Hillcrest Academy’s Marie Yoder is No. 10 in this week’s girls poll after a third place finish at her home Early Bird meet last week as the Ravens finished fourth in the team field.
For the 1A boys, Winfield-Mt. Union’s Kohlby Newsom is No. 10 this week. He had the top area finish at the Raven Early Bird meet, taking second place. WACO’s Jude Dykstra is No. 22 this week, fresh off of a third place finish in Kalona at the Early Bird and Ty Muniz for Columbus is No. 29 in the latest 1A rankings after a fourth place run at the Hillcrest Early Bird that helped lead the ‘Cats to the team crown.
