On September 5th at 6:30 pm, the Mt Pleasant Police Department responded to a report of a domestic incident in Mt Pleasant. The suspect had left the scene in a vehicle. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, but they did not stop their vehicle. A high-speed vehicle pursuit followed, and the suspect fired at the officers in their patrol car. The suspect eventually lost control of the vehicle on Highway 218 and 185th Street. Officers approached the vehicle and determined that the suspect was deceased. Throughout the incident, Officers did not discharge their weapons, and no Officers were harmed. The City of Mt Pleasant requested the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation to assist with the investigation, and the investigation remains ongoing. The Mt Pleasant Police Department was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, and Henry County EMS.
