Local cross country teams competed this past week. The Sigourney Savages had a good showing Thursday at the Davis County Invitational in Bloomfield thanks to a couple of medalists.

Troy Klett took third in the boys’ race with a time of 19 minutes four seconds, while fellow junior Addison Yates finished sixth on the girls’ side in 23:07. Junior Ellie Yates took the last spot in the girls’ top 10 for Sigourney by clocking in at 24:06, while freshman Levi Myers also ran a top-40 boys’ time for the Savages.

The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves got a medalist effort while also finishing sixth as a team in the boys’ competition Tuesday at the Van Buren County meet in Keosauqua.

Kohlby Newsom placed fourth in the boys’ race by crossing the finish line in 16:03 for WMU. Fellow senior Jacob Nelson and junior Bowen Thomson also had top-40 times for the Winfield-Mount Union boys, while freshman Ashlyn Bender was the lone Wolf for the girls and posted a time of just under 28-and-a-half minutes.
