A key match in the River Valley Conference volleyball championship chase went West Liberty’s way Thursday when the No. 10 in Class 3A Comets beat the No. 6 Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks in four sets. The Comets were winners on their home floor by scores of 13-25, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-19. For the Comets, Emma Yoder had an amazing 36 assists, Sophie Buysse 13 kills and Jaylee Kivi 13 digs.
Jovi Evans led the Hawks with a 17 assist, 16 kill, 14 dig triple double. Dakota Mitchell posted 26 digs, Laney Duwa 19 and Jeorgia Evans 15. Avery Helmuth added 14 assists, Harper Pacha had 12 kills and two aces, and Brylee Gearhart four blocks. The loss stops Mid-Prairie’s streak at 10 straight matches and is their first RVC defeat, dropping their overall record to 11-3, 1-1 in conference. West Liberty is now 9-5 on the year and 2-0 in the league.
