The Highland Huskies went on the road Friday and earned a district football victory by beating Van Buren County 13-0. A field goal in each of the first two quarters gave Highland a 6-0 halftime lead, and a fourth-quarter touchdown run by sophomore Garrett Beeson would seal the deal on the Huskies’ second shutout win of the season.

Another dominant night for the Highland defense featured six total takeaways. Jared Diaz came up with three interceptions by himself, while fellow senior Colten Sypherd also had a pick and a team-high nine tackles.

Sophomore Tyler Pierson also grabbed an interception for the Huskies, while senior Logan McFarland recovered a fumble and had a sack. McFarland also led the offense with 58 rushing yards on 15 carries, while senior quarterback Sage Hartley-Norman completed five of eight pass attempts for 61 yards.

Sypherd caught two of those passes to gain 41 yards as Highland improves to 1-1 in district play and 2-1 overall. The Huskies are back at home in their next game this Friday versus Lisbon
