SK is ranked in the top 10 of Class 1A in ten different team and individual categories. Saturday, Cobra head coach Jared Jensen joined the KCII Radio Coaches Corner to talk about his team’s come back win against Mid-Prairie and their play during the non-district schedule.

Jensen said, “We have had some big games this year. That first game out against PCM, wasn’t who we are. I think we saw who we are (against Mediapolis) when we gave up only seven. Against Mid-Prairie, we felt good about the game plan and our guys stepped up to the challenge. Mid-Prairie is a great football team. I’m just proud of our kids man, that was a big win for us. One of the most proud moments and proud wins we’ve had during my time here because of the fashion it was. We had to battle, had to fight, had guys going out, backups in, and everybody stepped up to the challenge and took care of business. Our guys are mentally and physically built for four quarters of football. This week it’s Homecoming for us, it’s going to be exciting. Cardinal comes to town and we’re going to try to put on a show!”

Cardinal is a winless 0-3 entering the game, dropping their non-district contests to Davis County, Central Lee and Pekin by a combined 192-6, including a 76-0 rout at the hands of the Panthers last week where they were outgained 496-13 in total, including 433-11 in the rush game, and committed three turnovers. Zach Luedtke had 19 yards on 11 carries to lead the Comet offense. Brady Johnson had four tackles on defense. This season, Cardinal averages two points per game and gives up 64, putting up 48 yards of offense per night, 34 through the air. This year, quarterback Alijah Frase is four of 20 for 94 yards, three interceptions and Cardinal’s only touchdown. The scoring throw went to Chase Johnson who has two grabs for 71 yards. Luedtke has 66 yards on 33 carries and leads the defense with 28 tackles. The Comets rank in the bottom five of Class 1A in all major offensive and defensive stats. The Snakes have won seven straight in the series by a combined 390-50 including 67-0 last season.
