The Highland Huskies host Lisbon tonight for a district football battle. Highland’s dominant defense has powered them to a 2-1 start, with a 13-0 win at Van Buren County last week giving the Huskies already their second shutout of the season.

Highland has given up only 235 yards per game thanks to ferocious defenders like Jared Diaz, who has collected four interceptions, and fellow senior Logan McFarland, who leads the team with 22-and-a-half tackles.

Senior Colten Sypherd has also been a playmaker on defense, picking up two tackles for loss, two picks and a fumble recovery. On offense, Diaz, McFarland and quarterback Sage Hartley-Norman have led the charge for the Huskies, each rushing for at least 130 yards.

Highland will be taking on an unbeaten Lisbon team that is looking like one of the best in the state. The fourth-ranked Lions hadn’t allowed a point from their opponents until last week and are just as dangerous on offense, racking up nearly 320 yards and 42 points a game.

Senior running back Tiernan Boots has been one of Lisbon’s biggest stars, putting up over 550 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. The Huskies have not beaten the Lions since 2018. Kickoff from Lisbon this evening is set for 7 o’clock.
